The impressive Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city, the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built and the largest standing amphitheatre in the world.
Built between 72-80 AD, the Colosseum held up to 50,000 spectators for spectacles like gladiatorial combat, animal hunts, and mock naval battles.
