Venice is famously built on an archipelago of 118 small islands in the Venetian Lagoon.
In the afternoon of the third day, we boarded a private boat on a cruise into the lagoon to the island of Burano, about 45 minutes from Venice. Burano is world-renowned for its intensely colorful, individually painted fishermen's houses and its traditional, intricate handmade needle lace.
